Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer that develops in the lymphatic system, which is the part of the immune system containing infection-fighting white blood cells. In Hodgkin lymphoma, B-lymphocytes (cells that make antibodies) multiply and start collecting in parts of the lymphatic system, such as lymph nodes. Affected lymphocytes begin to lose their ability to fight infections. The most common symptom of Hodgkin lymphoma is a swelling in a lymph node, usually in the neck, armpit or groin.
Thankfully, Hodgkin lymphoma is quite curable, and chemotherapy treats it quite well. However, adverse effects from chemotherapy are still present, such as nausea, appetite & weight loss, and general impairment of wellbeing. Cannabis users with Hodgkin lymphoma have reported an improvement in pain, appetite, nausea and general wellbeing. Case studies have also shown that cannabis may be useful in treating Hodgkin lymphoma, but more clinical trials are needed.
